District Closed

Update: May 1, 2020

Governor Cuomo has announced that all New York State schools are now closed for the remainder of the year. We will continue to provide remote learning, meal delivery, assitance with childcare for essential workers, and support for all of our families.

Update: April 19, 2020

The VVS School District is now closed until May 15, as Governor Cuomo has extended NY PAUSE until that date. We will continue to provide you with updated information as soon as it is available.

March 13, 2020

Dear Parents and Community Members:

A short time ago, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente declared a state of emergency in Oneida County and closed all schools beginning Monday, March 16. Our schools will remain closed until April 14.

This closure affects all programming at the district, including before- and after-school activities, all athletic and extracurricular practices and competitions, and weekend events.

Earlier today, Governor Cuomo waived the 180-day requirement for schools. So, while the district will be closed for four weeks, families do not need to plan for classes to extend into July to make up days. Currently, we have no guidance from the NYS Education Department on the administration of 3-8 Testing, Regents Exams, or AP Exams. We do know the administration of the March SAT has been cancelled.

We wanted to notify our families immediately, so they could make childcare arrangements and begin to plan for the weeks ahead. We recognize that students may have left personal belongings and materials needed for instructional continuity at school, and we will be making arrangements to resolve this issue.

Our district will take the following steps:

  • We will send out a survey to help families inform us of their need food services, internet, and other materials.
  • We will implement a digital learning program for students with Chromebooks and help families access digital learning platforms.
  • We will provide students who do not have Chromebooks with educational materials and supplies.
  • We will establish parent hotlines for technical assistance and school-related needs.

Faculty and staff will report on Monday to continue working on their digital and distance learning plans. Our goal is to provide all VVS students with continuing educational opportunities, routines, and support services.

We will provide regular updates on all of our official communication channels, including SchoolMessenger, Peachjar, our district website, and our Facebook page. The patience and grace exhibited by the entire VVS community during this challenging time is exceptional. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you or your family need assistance.

Sincerely,

Martha Group

Superintendent
